A 28km (return) day hike with the Nelson Tramping Club up the Kill Devil/Waingaro track to Riordans Hut in overcast conditions. This is a mountain bike track so the gradient was reasonably benign permitting a good pace, reaching Riordans after 4.25hrs with a few short breaks. The views down to the Waingaro river are spectacular and a good day you have views south to the tablelands and on to the Arthur Range. My GPS indicated 1660m of elevation gain for the trip which surprised us a bit.
