  • Kauaeranga Valley Road carpark to hut and Pinnacles & returning via Billy Goat Track, 16km, 5- hrs

The Kauaeranga Valley has many campgrounds nestled beside the Kauaeranga River, which flows down from the Coromandel Ranges through the valley. The valley has a choice of walks, swimming spots and historic re lics from kauri logging days. At 759 metres high, the Pinnacles have panoramic views of the bush, mountains and coastline of the southern Coromandel. A replica model dam (built to scale) like those used in the days of kauri logging is just a short walk from the Kauaeranga Visitor Centre.

The Pinnacles hut is a huge 80 bed structure unlike your standard back country hut. It is usually packed every weekend over summer and can have large school groups there during the week.
