Once an important travel route for early Māori, the St. James Cycleway is a challenging journey through magnificent high country complete with soaring peaks, broad river valleys and big skies. It's almost 100% rideable, but there are a couple of steep push sections, however, you'll remember the fast, sweeping downhills more. We were lucky enough to strike a good tail-wind (recommended). This was just one day of our ten-day South Island, New Zealand Adventure.
