When we arrived at Big Bay hut after descending off the Red Hills on our April 2023 trip I was amazed by the amount of Packrafters in the hut book. About 90% of the hut users were Packrafters. Whilst we were hiking around the coast to Martins Bay some Packrafters were being blown down the coast from the opposite direction. A few of them were of small stature carrying huge packs but with big grins on their faces. This prompted me to check out the Packrafting scene in NZ and I was impressed by this quickly growing activity. Hence the creation of this new section.
